#OccupyDCComics: #DCComics To Have An #OWS Inspired Series

This news was forwarded to me by a commenter at PJ, and I thought I would share it. I feel this is exciting news on a number of fronts. I just simply love it when politics and pop culture just come together to make beautiful music in the war of ideas. Since this series is going to be about Class and the question whether money can make you happy or not, I have no doubts there will be theological implications for this conversation. A win-win!

Hopefully, DC can take the opportunity to re-boot Icon, the black Republican Superman from Mile Stone Comics.

As a card-carrying Marvel Zombie, I have no idea how this will play out, but I do hope that this won’t be just DC’s Johnny-Come-Lately “Civil War”, as there are different issues being played with here.

As a psychologist, I have a bunch to say about money not buying happiness (It’s complicated, but “money doesn’t buy happiness” is good enough for this particular set of books), so I do hope that this will be demonstrated in the books. In fact, in an hour and a half, I will be lecturing on exactly that topic. 🙂

Minor Marvel-related note: Marvel did at one point get into buying one’s powers, with the character called The Power Broker and the augmentation process (basic super strength and resistance to injury). Difference was, that storyline more closely resembled the issue of performance-enhancing drugs, since most of the augmented were athletes who essentially sold themselves into long-term employment contracts in exchange for physical power. They had to work off their debt, so it wasn’t shown as something that the super-wealthy were doing.
