A link to Angel Wars: Angel Wars

“And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.”
Revelation 12:7-8 (NRSV)

“For our* struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12 (NRSV)

50, divinely inspired?

Well, sort of.

At first I found this story just to be outrageous, but it may be true. In the latest interview with XXL magazine, 50 Cent claims that he read a story about God creating angels who went to war which served as inspiration for his album’s title, War Angel LP. It is funny because War Angel, when places in reverse, and maybe if you add the letter S to Angel, you get Angel Wars, which is a Christian cartoon geared towards teaching children about spiritual warfare.  My friend T.C. has a theory that he shared on Facebook by way of a note that 50 Cent did not read any particular story or book, but that in fact, the leader of G-Unit may have watched an episode or two of Angel Wars.  Hilarious!

What do you all think?

[The] War Angel? Is this a reference to Satan himself? I’m not sure whether the book Revelation talks about a particular “War Angel” rather “Angels war” as you suggested.
I’m wondering to what extent 50 cent was inspired by the book of Revelation? Second, how does the story of “spiritual war [fare]” theology play into a Hip Hop theology, in the case of 50 cent’s hermeneutics?

I’m not criticizing 50. For I do believe he’s one of the most creative Hip hop artists and song-writers in the twenty-first century.

After all I need to listen to the album. Is it available on youtube?

Angel Wars is a cartoon made for Christian children’s ministries. The link can be found in my post.

Yeah, and it would interesting to looking Hip Hop’s view of spiritual warfare. Good idea, CJ! 🙂

Obviously 50 Cent, like any good red-blooded American, has been influenced by the language of the Bible and Christianity. It is just inescapable I guess!

interesting post. i’m always a little disheartened that the only part of the bible some folks find interesting is revelation lol. i have a step brother who is not walking with God, & every time i try to chat with him about God he brings of weird stuff in revelation and current events. but your right, our cultural milieu ensures that most everyone has a hint of bible in their every day vocabulary.

there is more we can do than pounding words on these guys, they might be wrong to some extent, but remember we once foreigners in relation to Israel, we were foreign to be born again.. But then God sent His Son for the sins of the whole world, 50 cent included.. i think rather always attacking and judging things that people say and do.. go on and seek yea first the kingdom of God. People dont know the word of God, they dont pray, but they are good at critisising.. pray for the salvatioon of the lost so that when we preach to them they may be edified too..!!
    thank you, AMEN

I do think there may be a misunderstanding about this post, but I was totally joking. It is just funny that 50 cent would use Angel Wars, a Christian cartoon, to discuss “urban” violence on his newest album.
